His Legacy Lives On! R.I.P To Dagrin

Exactly 5 years ago the Nigerian music industry lost a legend, Oladapo Olaitan Olaonipekun popularly known as Dagrin.

Dagrin's home was in Meiran, Alagbado, Lagos. His style of rapping incorporated Yoruba, English and Pidgin English.
In 2010 he was nominated for the Nigerian Entertainment Awards for Best Album (C.E.O.), Hottest Single "Pon Pon Pon", Best Rap Act and Best Collaboration with vocals. His album C.E.O. (Chief executive Omota English: Chief Executive Gangster) won the Hip hop World Award 2010 for best rap album. From it came the singles "Pon Pon Pon", and "Kondo". Dagrin worked with other Nigerian artists such as Y.Q, 9ice, M.I, Iceberg Slim, omobaba, terry g,code,MISTAR DOLLAR, TMD entertainment, omowumi, chudy k, Bigiano, and Konga.

He associated with music producers like Sossick, Dr Frabz, Sheyman, and Frenzy.

He died at the age of 22 on 22 April 2010 after a vehicle accident in Lagos, Nigeria.[1]

His Death
Dagrin died at 6:00pm on Thursday, April 22, 2010, exactly eight days after he was involved in a ghastly motor accident in front of Alakara Police Station, off Agege Motor Road, Mushin, Lagos. He survived a serious head injury as a result of the crash. He was initially admitted at Tai Solarin Hospital, Mushin before being transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, (LUTH) Idi Araba, where doctors made serious efforts to save his life.

The late rapper was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit and operated upon, and later moved to the private wing of the hospital. Eight days of nationwide panic, the media didn’t have to play anything up; the pictures from the accident were enough to send shivers down our spine, the photos from the hospital; of a lifeless, looking Dagrin, a sharp contrast from the animated artiste, stamped sadness on many faces.

In a bit to honour his memory a number of industry heavyweight will be performing at an all-black event.

Organized by Industry Nite and Eldar Records, music acts Olamide, 9ice, Reminisce, TeeBlaq, Seriki, Lord of Ajasa, YQ, Sossick, WondaBoy, BaseOne, JahBless, PoslyTD, Chinko Ekun, CDQ and more will be performing at this week’s Industry Nite.
